The University of North Texas Science Teaching Program is privileged to announce the availability of the following scholarship for the 2004-2005 academic year. The Science Teaching Program is an integrated course of study that provides the opportunity for students to complete a five-year bachelor/master's degree in a science major combined with certification at the secondary level in life science or physical science teaching fields. Students in this program follow a prescribed course schedule and receive mentoring from the Science Teaching Program Advisory Committee. A graduate scholarship is available to those enrolled in Chemistry Education.
Completed applications must be submitted by September 3, 2004. Awards will be announced in October 2004 and the funds made available for Spring 2005 semester.
Two scholarships in Chemistry Education were established by Dr. Diana Mason of the Department of Chemistry. Preferences will be given to students meeting the following expectations:
Undergraduate scholarship:
1. Enroll as a participant in the UNT Science Teaching Program with a declared major in chemistry
2. Have an overall GPA of 2.75 or better
3. High school transcript (new freshman) or unofficial copies of all college transcripts
4. A letter of introduction (including why you are interested in teaching)
5. One letter of recommendation (preferably from a former instructor)
Graduate scholarship:
1. Enrolled as a participant in either the Masters or PhD Chemistry Education program
2. Have an overall GPA of 3.00 or better
3. Letter of introduction (including your philosophy of education)
4. One letter of recommendation (preferably from your principal or former instructor)
