

The Department of Chemistry offers a variety of introductory chemistry courses to meet the needs of different students. Click on your major or interest to see which course is recommended for you.
CHEM 1350 Context of Chemistry -
Offered Fall, Spring and Summer I, this course is a 4 credit hour course (including 1
hour of lab credit) designed primarily for the non-science major
wishing to take a chemistry course that meets the science core requirement
for the College of Arts and Sciences.
CHEM
1412 General Chemistry for the University Honors Program - (formerly
Chemistry for CLC Honors). Offered during the Fall semester, this is the
first of a two course sequence (CHEM 1412 and CHEM 1422) for students
in the University Honors Program ONLY. This course meets
the science requirement for the College of Arts and Science. Students
must also be enrolled in chemistry laboratory, CHEM 1430.
CHEM 1410 General Chemistry -
Offered Fall, Spring and Summer I, this is the first of a two course sequence (CHEM 1410
and CHEM 1420). This course is recommended for science majors
and pre-med students and for any student planning to take additional chemistry.
Students who wish a more challenging course and earn at least a 'B'
may enroll in the second semester of Honors General Chemistry (CHEM 1423).
This course meets the science requirement for the College of Arts
and Science. Students must also be enrolled in chemistry laboratory, CHEM 1430.
CHEM
1413 Honors General Chemistry - Offered
during the Fall semesters, this is the first of a two course sequence (CHEM
1413 and CHEM 1423) for students wishing a more demanding chemistry course.
It is highly recommended for science majors and pre-med students. This
course is similar to CHEM 1410, but is somewhat faster paced. A strong
high school chemistry course and a firm grasp of algebra (MATH 1100 or
equivalent) are the minimum requirements for this course. Students
who complete this course, may if they wish, enroll in the second semester
of General Chemistry (CHEM 1420). This course meets the science
requirement for the College of Arts and Sciences. Students must
also be enrolled in chemistry laboratory, CHEM 1430.
