Dr. Diana Mason

Associate Professor of Chemistry




My research interests lie in the field of chemical education specifically highlighting high school preparation for freshmen chemistry and the study of general chemistry. I am interested in the improvement of the teaching and learning strategies for general chemistry and in science teacher preparation.

I am also the coordinator for the Chemistry Education program (for details see below).

I teach the following courses:
  • General Chemistry I (CHEM 1410)
  • Procedures and Materials for Science Instruction (CHEM 4700/5800)
  • Studies in Chemistry Education (CHEM 5820)
  • Chemistry Behind the Elements (CHEM 5840)
  • Learning Theories in Chemistry Education (CHEM 5880)

    Dr. Mason received her B.A. in 1974 from the University of Texas at Austin and her M.S. in 1978 from Texas A&M University, Commerce. Following 10 years of teaching high school chemistry and mathematics at Jesuit College Prepratory School in Dallas, she returned to the University of Texas at Austin and received her Ph.D. in 1994. She joined the UNT faculty in 2001.
