Job Openings

Postdoctoral Positions At this time, there are 1-2 postdoctoral openings in the Wilson Research Group. Interested applicants should send their CV, letter of interest, and have 2-3 letters of recommendation sent to akwilson@unt.edu.

Graduate Positions At present, the group is quite full. However, applicants may be considered for a position under the following circumstances:
  1. Students who have a high interest in computational chemistry method development and coding with an adequate backgroud (i.e. strong math education beyond calculus).
  2. Part-time graduate students supplemented by other financial means (i.e. outside employment).
  3. Graduates interested in a joint assignment under the direction of more than one advisor.
  4. Visiting graduate students.

Undergraduate Positions Undergraduates with an interest in the Wilson Research Group should schedule an appointment with Dr. Wilson to discuss research opportunities. To be considered, applicants must:
  1. Have a CGPA of at least 3.0.
  2. Declared a major in chemistry, physics, computer science, or math.
  3. Be of at least sophomore standing, although outstanding freshmen are considered (students concurrently enrolled in the physical chemistry sequence are particularly well-suited).
  4. Commit to at least two long semesters while obtaining research credit towards their major.

TAMS Positions Each year, two to three TAMS students are accepted into the group. TAMS students who are interested in research in the group should schedule an appointment with Dr. Wilson no later than the end of their first semester. These applicants are expected to:
  1. Have at least a CGPA of 3.7 with a 4.0 in chemistry.
  2. Be enrolled in the honors general chemistry sequence, although the top 5% of the regular chemistry class is also desirable.
  3. Begin research in their first spring semester and continue through summer.
Students interested in a summer project only will not be considered. Further, this is not a paid position in the long semesters (TAMS Summer Fellowships are paid positions, however).

Typically, TAMS students continue work on their research into their second year, when they apply for nationally competitive awards such as the Barry Goldwater Awards, the Intel Science Talent Search competition, and the Siemens-Westinghouse competition. To date, former TAMS students have won the Barry Goldwater Award (2003, 2006) and have been Intel Science Talent Search Finalists (2005 - National Top 40 Finalist, 2006 - 9th-place nationally).

Computer Science Graduates Graduate students in computer science interested in web programming are not eligible for any positions in the group. Further, there are no funded positions for students pursuing graduate degrees in computer science (even if their undergraduate degree is in chemistry). If a student is interested in taking research credit hours in order to learn more about how extensive computing is used in chemistry and physics, then please contact Dr. Wilson.
