The story is a little more complex than implied by this plaque. The dinner party included Soddy's wife Winifred née Beilby; his parents-in-law George and Emma Beilby; and a friend of his wife Dr. Margaret Todd. Soddy was pondering what he should call his elements with different radioactive behavior but with the same chemical properties. Dr. Todd, a literary scholar, suggest "iso-topos," i.e., Greek for the "same place" (in the Periodic Table).
