The older chemistry building is known as the "Philologicum," built in 1853-1858, which contained the Department of Chemistry until 1904. This is the south (main) view. Here Cleve discovered holmium and thulium, and isolated terrestrial helium from a mineral (cleveite) found in Norway; and Nilson discovered scandium and prepared metallic titanium.
